Communication is key to any company, whether that’s working with clients or teams communicating ideas, receiving feedback, or quickly deciding on project deadlines and other details. Virtual tools provide teams with the ability to seamlessly communicate, no matter where they are in the world or on the opposite side of the table.

This article employs bibliometric analysis to study the most influential contributions as well as journals and authors in the field of research on the use of virtual tools in teaching and learning processes. Its goal is to study the evolution and development of these technologies in academic settings and to highlight the current trends and perspectives for future applications (Villa and co. 2018).

To do so the citations matrix was created using the SCOPUS database, which has books with high recognition by scientists and wide worldwide coverage of highly specialized texts in every subject area. The primary search criteria were terms equivalent to virtual learning tools as well as keywords “teaching-learning”.

Of these articles the most relevant were those that focused on the use of teleconferences, online forums and chats for the teaching and management of educational process. They emphasized the benefits of these tools, noting that they offer a superior alternative to traditional classrooms that to encourage active participation. Furthermore, they highlighted the importance of integrating these tools into academic curricula, so that students can learn in a pliable manner and acquire practical skills that are valuable in the workplace.
